This short workshop will provide participants with a common grounding in the fundamentals of co-design.

The workshop is based on TACSI’s experience of co-design which includes the design of services and policy in education, disability, home and housing, health and mental health settings, ageing and communities

Our facilitators will work with you to tailor the course to your needs including selecting co-facilitators and case studies relevant to your context. 

This workshop has been well received by all kinds of social purpose organisations including government departments, service providers and academics. 


The workshop will cover 

  • An introduction to the principles and practices that underpin co-design work 
  • An introduction to the Four Diamond Framework to organise co-design activities
  • Case studies of co-design projects from TACSI’s work relevant to your setting
  • An overview of helpful and harmful co-design practices

Chris Vanstone

Chief Innovation Officer, TACSI

Chris started his career designing biscuits and razors before transitioning into social innovation over 20 years ago. As TACSI’s CIO, he’s responsible for keeping TACSI at the cutting edge of social innovation, playing a big role in the development of our practice, major initiatives and strategy. Chris’ goal is to democratise social innovation. He’s always striving to get important concepts into the world in ways that are clear.

Carla Clarence

Future of Mental Health, TACSI

Carla is passionate about supporting mental health practitioners and transforming how we approach mental health as a society. Over the last five years, she has led over 30 co-design and co-planning projects in mental health settings including with not-for-profits, private health networks, and government, as well as philanthropically-funded work. With a practice-based background of case work, coaching, and working with people experiencing extremely complex life challenges, she understands the realities of making ‘co’ work across the service-system.

Simone Mandl

Principal Regenerative Communities, TACSI

A participatory designer and generative researcher, Simone has over 16 years’ experience working with communities and organisations to create visions for sustainable, equitable futures through fieldwork, co-design and design-led research. Simone is passionate about re-imagining cultural narratives that enable people to lead, imagine and invest in regenerative futures.

What participants will do together

  • Reflect on the mindsets and practices for co-design - identifying strengths and areas for growth

  • Identify frameworks, processes and practices that you can take from TACSI’s projects to incorporate into your own

  • Reflect on what you would like to take forward from the workshop into your practice

  • Develop a shared understanding and common language to talk about co-design

Included in the workshop package:

  • 1hr introductory conversation to support tailoring the workshop

  • Up to 2hrs of tailoring workshop materials to fit your needs

  • 3hrs of workshop delivery with two facilitators for up to 25 people (online or in person with additional travel costs)

  • Lifelong access to learning resources and co-design guidance, for up to 25 people via the TACSI Learning Hub including via the Learning Hub smart phone ap
